What Are Metering Modes and How Do I Use Them?

 

  • Center Mode is used for outdoor shooting when an object is at the center of the screen in order to provide the right light exposure.

 

  • Multi Mode is best for landscape shooting. It averages the amount of light entering the screen.

 

  • Spot Mode can be used when a subject is backlit or in order to emphasize the object in the foreground.

Center Mode- The Camera measures the light from 60-80% of the viewfinder area in the center of the frame to determine exposure. This mode is best for photos that have a large object in the center of the frame.

Multi Mode- The camera averages all the light entering the lens so that the whole scene will be bright and clear. It is best for landscape shooting.

Spot Mode- When there is a significant difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the scene, the camera will measure the middle part of the frame only. When the center is bright, the camera will base its exposure on the center so that it will appear well lit.
